Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group access places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
